The Jenkins Independent Board of Education highlighted the district archery program at its April 23 special meeting, recognizing student competitors, coach Angie Collins and the parents who support the team.
Mr. Johnson introduced the spotlight and noted recent individual achievements, including a 2025 Kentucky high‑school NASP/IBO 3D state championship by a student named Kimber and a 2025 Kentucky NASS State Bullseye Elementary Championship won by fifth grader Ian Hall. Coach Angie Collins told the board the program spans grades 4–12 with 21 archers and explained the program is individualized but competes as individuals because there are not enough to form official teams in all divisions.
Collins described the program's time commitment and costs: students practice five days a week during the season, and parents raised money and handled fundraisers to support 28 tournaments this year. "For those 28 tournaments, it's $5,065 out of the archery fund," Collins said, and she noted the district provides equipment at no cost to families. The board and community members thanked the students and parents for their effort and support.
Why it matters: the spotlight highlights extracurricular achievement and community support in Jenkins Independent schools, and the presentation provided parents and the board an accounting of participation levels and fundraiser contributions.
Next steps: the board encouraged continued recognition of programs and noted the softball/Drama/other extracurriculars will be showcased at upcoming events.
