Recreation Director details end-of-summer pool schedule, events and fall programs

The Recreation Director reported that pool season in Bedford is winding down and outlined weekend-only hours after school resumes, with the pool scheduled to remain open on Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day, the last day of the season. "So we're coming to an end, on pool season," the Recreation Director said.
The director announced an end-of-season Rockahoula luau at the pool on Friday the 31st from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., sponsored by the Bedford Firefighters Association number 728. "Tickets are $5 and need to be purchased at the parks department office by this coming Monday," the Recreation Director said, adding that children must be accompanied by an adult and that normal pool rules and lifeguards will be present.
The report covered other youth programming. The Recreation Director said the last youth craft day will be next Wednesday the 29th from 10 to 11 a.m. at Thornton Pavilion, with participants making bug houses. An art day by Tinks Fine Art will be held Sunday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children ages 7–14; the one-day camp costs $75 per child and includes food, drinks and multiple take-home creations, followed by an art show.
On sports programming, the Recreation Director said summer leagues were wrapping up: "summer pickleball just ended and softball is wrapping up with their season tournaments this week and next week." Fall pickleball will be eight games for $50 with a registration deadline of August 19, and fall softball will be eight games for $475 per team with a deadline of Thursday the 30th.
The director also summarized ongoing and recent offerings: the youth running club has continued meeting twice weekly with variable turnout (one group had about 13 kids), a recent Churchill Downs trip drew 12 participants, and a planned Indianapolis Indians trip was canceled after no one signed up.
