The Mercer Island Open Space Conservancy Trust met July 16 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center and approved minutes from its April 16, 2026 meeting before proceeding to select officers for the coming year.
Trustees opened nominations for chair, vice chair and secretary and, after a nomination and a motion that staff conduct a unanimous roll-call ballot for the sole nominee for chair, staff called the roll. Multiple trustees recorded “Aye,” and the motion to elect the nominee carried. The meeting paused so newly elected officers could assume their roles.
Trustee Carolyn Brissett made the nomination for chair; council member Lisa moved to have staff cast a unanimous ballot for the nominee and Trustee Rosenthal seconded the motion. The roll-call procedure recorded affirmative votes from trustees present and the motion passed by majority vote.
The trust followed the same process to confirm a vice chair and secretary; staff conducted roll calls and the motions were approved. The newly elected officers then continued the remainder of the meeting.
The trust did not take any other substantive policy actions during the elections item. The minutes will reflect the official vote tallies and officer names.
The meeting continued into discussions of park bench siting, herbicide use and signage before adjourning at 6:56 p.m.
