Picayune rejects bids for street sweeper, dump truck; staff to re-advertise via reverse auction

Public Works staff explained that the bid process had missed a required newspaper advertising step. "Once we realize that, we need to cancel that bid proposal and, basically, rerun the process through our 3rd party, reverse auction bid process," staff said, explaining the city will advertise for two weeks and then run an online reverse-auction. Staff and council members estimated the overall process takes roughly a month from re-advertisement to returned pricing.
The council moved, seconded and approved motions to reject the bids and authorize the mayor to sign official rejection letters. The council then authorized re-advertisement and the municipal reverse-auction method for both the street sweeper and the dump truck.
Why it matters: Re-advertising means the city will delay procurement for fleet equipment but aims to correct procedural issues and potentially lower prices through a reverse-auction process.
Council and staff noted the step is corrective rather than substantive to specifications; the items will return to the procurement process for a new round of bidding.
