Council approves mayor's travel, budget amendments and routine police reimbursements

The Picayune City Council on Sept. 16 approved several routine administrative items, including out-of-state travel for the mayor, budget amendments and a police reimbursement.
Finance administration asked the council to approve travel for Mayor Jim Luke and Sid Auburn to visit the congressional delegation in Washington, D.C., Oct. 19–23, 2025. The council approved the travel after a motion by Councilman Bridal and a second by Councilwoman Bumpers.
The council also authorized budget amendments and the publication of a related resolution, approving the request as submitted and authorizing the mayor and city clerk to sign necessary documents. That item was moved by Councilman Brelin and seconded by Councilman Hickman.
On police matters, the council approved a $2,500 reimbursement to the Prairie County Sheriff's Office for James Burch's Certified Investigator Program (CIP) course. A police presenter said the department benefits when it hires certified investigators and noted multiple certified officers on staff. The council also approved a request to surplus and destroy a list of inoperable items, including multiple Panasonic Toughbooks and several laptops; the motion was moved by Councilman Hickman and seconded by Councilwoman Bumpers.
All items were approved by voice vote; no fiscal amounts beyond the $2,500 reimbursement were detailed for the budget amendments or the surplus list at the meeting.
