Council approves parade, street name change, engagement renewals, park event and several police items

Key approvals: The council approved (1) a Veterans Day parade scheduled for Nov. 11, 2025 (rain date Nov. 7), (2) a request to rename/standardize addresses from Wildwood Road to Wildwood Drive per Pearl River County E‑911, (3) acceptance of the FY2023 audit report, (4) renewal of an engagement letter with Butler Snow for continuing disclosures related to FY2024, (5) a subdivision of a parcel at 521 Mill Street, (6) a Toys for Tots car‑show event at Friendship Park on Nov. 15, 2025, (7) acceptance of an FY26 Occupant Protection (OP) grant for $18,000 to reimburse officer overtime for traffic details, (8) authorization to surplus and sell specified firearms at auction, and (9) authorization for the police chief to sign a memorandum of understanding to join the Mississippi ICAC task force and receive training and equipment.
Votes and procedure: Most items were approved on voice votes after brief staff presentations. Motions were moved and seconded on the record; in several cases the transcript records the mover (for example, the Veterans Day parade motion was moved by Councilman Hickman) and the votes were taken by voice with no roll‑call tally printed in the transcript.
Why it matters: The approvals authorize routine city events, procedural corrections to street names for 911 addressing, continued legal and financial support for bond disclosures and police‑related grants and partnerships that provide training and equipment.
What’s next: Staff will follow up on grant implementation, ordinance amendments to reflect address changes and the schedule and logistics for the approved events. Council adjourned until Sept. 2.
