The Burnsville City Council on July 21 voted to accept donations and grants for the second quarter of 2026, including 200 official World Cup soccer balls provided through a partnership between FIFA and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The donations resolution (item 4d) was presented during the consent portion of the agenda. The mayor highlighted the FIFA gift and described long-running partnerships that have benefited the city, including internship support from Harvard and youth programming with Major League Baseball. "These soccer balls are more than equipment. I believe they're an investment in joy, connection, and opportunity for our youth," the mayor said while urging approval of the resolution. The council moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by voice vote.
During the same consent discussion the mayor announced that councilmember Keeley and councilmember Schultz were absent and that the mayor would pull item 40 for separate discussion at a later time. With the donations resolution approved, the council recessed to allow the Economic Development Authority to convene.
The vote on item 4d was taken by voice; the mayor stated the motion carries after a unanimous verbal 'aye' and no recorded nays were announced. The council did not provide a roll-call tally in the meeting record for this item. The council adjourned its portion of the evening after the EDA completed its business.
