Bridge between Suffield High agriscience center and Bruce Park closed; repairs expected to exceed $250,000

Superintendent Matt Dunbar told the board that the bridge linking the Suffield High School Agriscience Center and Bruce Park has been closed for safety and is under engineering evaluation. Initial cost estimates provided to the board were approximately $180,000–$200,000 to restore the structure for pedestrian use only and roughly $75,000–$80,000 more to allow agricultural vehicle access, with total project costs expected to exceed $250,000.
Dunbar said agriscience grant funds cannot be used to pay for the repairs. The district will await final written cost estimates; town funding will be required and the PBC and Board of Selectmen will be part of upcoming discussions. Board members asked who would be responsible for payment and how project scope could be limited to reduce cost.
