Bryan City Council approves appropriations, sanitary-sewer bid authorization, and routine permits

At its July 20 meeting the Bryan City Council approved several routine but consequential actions in addition to the EMS agreement.

Ordinance 32 20 26 (annual appropriations) was read into the record and adopted. John explained the ordinance covers donations and grants previously reported to council, insurance reimbursements for hail-damaged vehicles and a reimbursement for a senior-center gutter repair. "So, dollar for dollar, this is new money, and we're appropriating it to be, to pay for those expenses," John said. The ordinance was suspended and adopted by roll call vote.

Resolution 342026 authorized the clerk-treasurer to advertise for bids on the 2026 South Walnut Area Sanitary Sewer Improvements, an estimated $350,000 project to repair or replace sanitary sewer across two blocks (South Main to South Walnut, High to Maple) affecting 56 taps. Staff said the project is budgeted and the city plans to apply for two more public-works grants next year.

Council approved a $160,000 building permit for Neihard Enterprises to construct storage units at 1060 South Union Street and waived the local hearing to allow a liquor-permit name transfer for Jackie Blues following the sale by Clarence Wheeler to Delendinato. These items were handled by motion and unanimous roll call votes.

Before adjourning to executive session to discuss employee compensation and employment, council offered community announcements praising recent events such as Flare on the Square and thanking departments that supported the weekends' activities.
