Planning staff reports hiring progress, housing strategy adoption and grant contract

Planning Manager Dan Zinder updated the Molalla Planning Commission on staffing and recent staff work, including recruitment for a Community Development support role and progress on housing-related grants and plans.
Zinder said the city has held interviews for a support position in Community Development and expects to recommend a candidate in a future meeting. He reported that the council adopted the city's housing production strategies document last month and that the planning team uploaded the document to the housing portal for state review.
Zinder also said the city finalized a grant contract with the Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) for an amount referenced in the transcript as about $115,000 to support additional housing work, including feasibility studies for subareas. He described next steps as completing signatures and beginning the contracted work.
During the updates commissioners asked about related school construction activity and local outreach. Deputy City Recorder Crystal Robles also announced an open planning commission seat and said the application is posted on the Molalla city website and shared on the March newsletter and city social platforms.
Zinder closed the staff communications portion by saying staff will continue work on the housing studies and report back to the commission as items progress.
