The Giddings City Council approved two special-event applications at its June 23 meeting.
Council approved a Special Event 'Public' application from the Giddings Economic Development Corporation for a Holiday Festival and Christmas Market on Nov. 28, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., including a lighted parade and the lighting of decorative lights. The motion was made by Kevin Rinn and seconded by Mark Muniz; the vote was recorded as unanimous among members present.
Council also approved a request from Kala Green to close W. Washington St. from N. Caldwell St. to N. Waco St. for a private family-day event on July 18, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. Interim City Manager Heather Garner relayed that the Green family held a similar event the prior year without problems. Kala Green told council she had spoken with neighbors and agreed that the city could stage barricades for the closure and that the family would pick them up the following Monday. The motion (moved by Mark Muniz, seconded by Jacob Janda) carried unanimously.
Both approvals were recorded with unanimous votes from the members present.
