A committee member described a festival organized by Backyard Boards (based in Myrtle Creek) that will feature food and beverage vendors, a kids’ zone, music and a chili cook‑off. Staff said organizers hope to expand attendance from roughly 1,200 last year to a goal of about 3,000 this year and that overflow parking and shuttle plans are in place.
Separately, staff reported that downtown planting baskets and other plants will be delivered and that a spring cleanup (Spirit Day) is scheduled; volunteers will meet in front of Tommy’s at 8 a.m. to help with Main Street and side streets. The park host, Harold, will water during the week and parks maintenance staffer Gavin Lindstrom volunteered to water on weekends; staff noted watering is a paid duty and discussed trip time and costs.
Directors asked staff to provide cost estimates and logistical details for watering and for the festival’s parking and shuttle operations so the board and council are prepared for anticipated attendance.
