Mount Angel mayor announces resignation from council seat; council to discuss appointment process

Mayor (speaker 1) told the council on Oct. 3 that he had submitted a memo resigning his counselor seat because he is now serving as mayor. He said the position will be filled by council appointment and asked that the council discuss a process at the next meeting so an appointee could take office in January. "I resigned my position," he said, and suggested the council might wait until after the election to make an appointment.
Councilors discussed timing and indicated they would consider discussing the process in November or December so that an appointment could be made in time for the new year. The mayor said he wanted the council to start thinking about a replacement process at the next meeting.
