Residents press for 150th Street repairs; board sends road projects to engineer and adds tire complaint to March 17 agenda

Residents pressed the Silver Creek Township Board on March 3 to address delayed road repairs and a lingering nuisance complaint, and the board instructed its engineer to prepare project bids that include 150th Street as an alternate.

During old-business discussion, Ryan Olsen and other residents said they were disappointed that 150th Street was excluded from this year’s list and raised concerns about the cost of calcium chloride treatment and delays tied to the Locke Lake Watershed study. The board discussed options, weighing a lower-cost chip seal over gravel against a more expensive Ultra bond product that the engineer said would likely offer greater durability. The board expressed sympathy for residents whose repairs have been deferred because planned culvert replacements may require tearing up recently improved road surfaces.

Action taken: the board voted 4-0 to send specified roads to the township engineer for bid preparation, listing Curtis, Clementa and Barton Avenues and 155th, 159th and 134th Streets and including 150th Street as an alternate for both chip seal and Ultra bond bids. The minutes record that staff (Chris Klein) will provide materials to Otto Engineering to begin bid work.

Public comment and next steps: earlier in the meeting Brian Jones was recognized to follow up on a complaint about a pile of tires at 4377 - 114th Street NW; he said the tires "are still there." The township’s annual meeting is scheduled for March 10; the road bid preparations and the March 17 agenda item are the immediate procedural next steps.
