Silver Creek supervisors reappoint leadership, raise pay and authorize job postings

At its Jan. 6 meeting, the Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors completed a reorganization agenda that included leadership appointments, meeting scheduling, compensation increases and personnel-authorized job postings.
The board approved a motion (Nelson/Christensen) to recognize Mike Helman as chairman and to assign Supervisor Geyen the role of road boss; that motion carried 3-0 with Chair Helman recorded as abstaining. The board also voted to retain current committee assignments and to keep the twice-monthly meeting schedule; the board set Cleanup Day for May 2, 2026.
On compensation, the board approved raising monthly pay for the chairman and road boss to $600 (motion carried 3-0 with Helman abstaining on that vote). The board also approved higher maintenance wages: $38 per hour for maintenance staff and $35 per hour for part-time help when plowing (otherwise $30 per hour). Those pay motions carried unanimously among present members.
The board addressed township finances and administrative staffing: it directed the treasurer to pay an overdue IRS balance (Nelson/Christensen; carried 4-0) and authorized posting two open positions (full-time maintenance and clerk/treasurer) on Indeed with up to $500 per posting (Nelson/Forsman; carried 4-0). Maintenance reported the township’s 2023 John Deere tractor from MN Equipment should arrive within the week, and supervisors praised maintenance for road de-icing after recent freezing rain.
Several items (a driveway application and hall rental reviews) were tabled for lack of time. The meeting adjourned at 9:17 p.m. after a motion by Supervisor Nelson and second by Supervisor Christensen that carried 4-0.
