Johnson said current GIC interests include infrastructure (primarily transportation), workforce development and housing, and that GIC coordinated a recent Internet task force and reviewed the Beaufort County referendum experience. She offered that GIC can either form joint task forces with county subcommittees or take the lead on research and recommendations, noting implementation remains the purview of elected officials.
Board members agreed to explore using GIC’s sustainability and task‑force resources to support a county litter and solid‑waste prevention subcommittee. The board designated a member to work with GIC and report progress back to county committees.
Johnson’s presentation was framed as an offer of volunteer, task‑force technical assistance to help coordinate regional solutions; no binding commitments or contracts were executed during the session.
