Resident urges better warnings after downed power line incident

During citizens petitions at the July 21 meeting, resident Edward Bowne of 412 Fuller Road described a June incident in which a downed power line lay near the curb and several pedestrians — including a woman with children and a passerby with a stroller — walked into the taped-off area without realizing the danger.
Bowne recounted his concern that people did not appreciate that electrocution can occur without touching a live wire, noting a possible 30-foot hazardous radius under certain conditions, and praised the rapid response by Hinsdale fire and police. "We really dodged a bullet," Bowne said, and he requested the village run an awareness campaign and use clear sidewalk signage when downed lines occur.
Village leaders thanked Bowne for raising the issue and said staff and the fire chief already are addressing procedures and signage. The board did not vote on formal action but committed to internal follow-up and public communication options.
