Dwight council approves amended 2024 budget increases for library and sewer; orders follow-ups on water meter request

Mayor Pam Goss opened the Dwight City Council’s Dec. 16, 2024, regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the library, noting councilmembers Ashley Gearhart, Brenda Anderson, Peter Marquardt, Chelsey Brosious and Susan Mulryan were present.
The council held an amended budget hearing and approved the amended 2024 budget, which the minutes state increases expenditures in the Library and Sewer funds. Councilman Peter Marquardt moved to accept the amended budget; Councilwoman Susan Mulryan seconded and the motion carried, 5-0.
The council also approved routine business: Marquardt moved to accept the Nov. 18, 2024, meeting minutes (Anderson seconded; 5-0) and to pay bills totaling $347.26 (Anderson seconded; 5-0).
Under new business the council authorized a purchase of gravel after a motion by Marquardt and a second from Ashley Gearhart; the minutes record the motion carried 4-1 but do not identify which councilmember voted against it.
During public comment visitor Arius Reynoso asked the council to install a water meter at 10th Street and Reynoso Drive and raised related sewer-line concerns. Council members directed staff to gather cost estimates and return the matter for consideration at the January council meeting.
City staff provided routine reports. Maintenance and Water Manager Ryan Taylor submitted written reports and told the council the Metron water-meter installation was roughly 75% complete at the time of the meeting. City Clerk Ken Bergeron submitted financials and said the conversion work touches both Jayhawk and Metron software systems.
The council adjourned at 9:24 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for January 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
