Warren County Human Service Committee approves $4,500 transfer for veterans' van repairs

The Warren County Human Service Committee voted unanimously on July 21 to move forward with a request to transfer $4,500 to cover unexpected repairs to Veteran Services’ vans.
Mister Taflin, a Warren County veteran services staff member, told the committee that the department operates three vans that transport veterans to the Albany VA hospital three times a week and also support the county senior transportation network. “We're asking that you take $4,500 out of the contingency fund, of which there are over $200,000 remaining in the contingency this year,” Taflin said, explaining the size and urgency of the repair request.
The transfer request was introduced by the chair and brought to the floor on a motion by Supervisor Strainer, seconded by Supervisor Gilligan; the committee approved the motion by voice vote.
Committee members sought brief clarification on funding mechanics. Taflin and the chair said the director had arranged to move money within her department budget to pay for the repair, rather than tapping unrelated joint accounts.
Members were also told that Veteran Services had distributed farmers-market food-package allotments to roughly 100 veterans across Warren County. The chair said the distribution was first-come, first-served and that there would not be a second round of funds for the program this year.
There were no public commenters during the meeting. With no further business, the chair called for adjournment and the committee closed the session.
