Malabar council approves response to JLAC repeat audit findings on account reconciliations

The Malabar Town Council on April 20 approved a staff-drafted response to the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee (JLAC) regarding repeated findings in the Fiscal Year 2023/24 audit, both related to account reconciliations.
Town Clerk Richard Kohler told council JLAC requested a written explanation of corrective actions addressing findings that have appeared in three or more successive audit reports. Staff drafted a letter describing steps being taken; the letter had been reviewed by CRI and the James Moore audit team. Council voted to approve the letter and directed Mayor Steve Rivet to sign it for transmittal to JLAC (Motion: CM Abare/CM Hofmeister). Clerk said the CRI team is assisting staff to ensure future compliance.
No additional policy or budget action was taken at the meeting; the approved action was transmittal of the response to JLAC for their review.
