She said existing stormwater systems are functioning but no further stormwater work was directed for this contract.
Council debate reflected differing views: CM Jim Clevenger and Mayor Rivet supported the paving as a means to reduce maintenance and respond to resident requests; CM Marisa Acquaviva opposed proceeding during a moratorium and cited fairness concerns because some neighborhoods have privately funded road repairs. The motion passed with CM Acquaviva and CM Wayne Abare recorded as the two nays.
The contract will be executed as a piggy-back off Brevard County’s existing contract with VA Paving, Inc., and staff confirmed funds were allocated in the current budget. Next steps: staff will finalize the contract administration with the vendor and schedule work; no stormwater-related scope or additional funding was approved at this meeting.
