Board adopts SB 88-aligned technology policy to let parents restrict district-device web access

The Davis County School District Board approved a policy update intended to implement SB 88 changes that require additional parent contact and options for district-managed student Internet access.
Mr. Onofrio presented the policy change and summarized key provisions required by SB 88: a parental option to request a whitelisted limitation on a student's internet access on district devices, a means for parents or students to monitor certain aspects of student Internet use, and an updated name for the district's acceptable use agreement. "SB 88 is asking us to have more contact with parents regarding our technology," Onofrio said, recommending the board approve the update on first and final reading.
A trustee moved to approve 7SS-003 (technology resources and Internet safety) on first and final reading; Miss Price moved and Miss Stevens seconded the motion. The board approved the update by voice vote.
District staff said the policy also aligns the district complaint process with statutory requirements and renames the accessible-use agreement document; specifics of parent-facing forms and the district's implementation steps will be handled administratively.
