Davis board approves Bolton HVAC engineer and selects Hughes as construction manager for Catalyst Center expansion

The Davis County School District Board of Education approved two capital-project selections Tuesday: Resolute Group was approved as the engineer for a Bolton Elementary boiler replacement project, and Hughes General Contractors was selected as the construction manager for the Catalyst Center expansion.
Mr. Leffel described the Bolton Elementary work as a preemptive boiler replacement and said the district followed its process to recommend Resolute Group as the project's engineer. "This is one of those projects that nobody sees unless it doesn't work," he said, urging proactive replacement.
On the Catalyst Center expansion, Mr. Leffel said the district had completed a qualifications-based selection process and recommended Hughes as the construction manager so builders'level input could inform design and produce efficiencies. He said the district is not at the stage of committing to a building size or total project cost; once design and subcontractor bids are complete, Hughes would present a guaranteed maximum price to the board for approval.
Leffel identified district fund balance and a state Catalyst grant as primary funding sources for the Catalyst work. Board members voted to approve both selections on voice votes.
The approvals authorize hiring the listed firms to proceed with engineering and construction-management services; the board will consider any construction contract or guaranteed maximum price when bids and design details are available.
