Dwight council accepts resignation, approves bills and routine motions; directs meter cost estimates

The Dwight City Council at its Sept. 16 regular meeting recorded several administrative actions: it accepted the resignation of a maintenance employee, approved routine bills, accepted a donation and authorized modest purchases, and directed staff to gather information ahead of upcoming administrative deadlines.
Maintenance Manager Ryan Taylor provided a written maintenance report and informed council that Jim Kirkeminde submitted a resignation. Taylor also gave the water manager's report and was asked to obtain cost estimates for new water meters to serve a Water salesman location and the Fire Department; he additionally requested that meter pits be repaired before installing the new meters.
City Clerk Ken Bergeron provided written financials and said an estimate from Advantage Computers on the Jayhawk invoice had been extended to Oct. 31, 2024. Bergeron was asked to work with Taylor to prepare a survey spreadsheet for the State of Kansas before the Oct. 15, 2024 deadline.
On motions and votes, Councilwoman Ashley Gearhart moved to approve bills totaling $2,183.05; Councilwoman Susan Mulryan seconded and the motion carried, 5-0. Councilman Peter Marquardt moved to accept a $250 donation from Roger Porter for tree disposal outside city limits; Councilwoman Mulryan seconded and the motion carried, 5-0. Mulryan moved to authorize Mayor Pam Goss to spend up to $250 on a new sign for the city burn site; Councilwoman Brenda Anderson seconded and the motion passed, 5-0. Councilman Marquardt moved to pay a bond obligation to the Kansas State Treasurer's Office (Principal $9,800; Interest $11,943.75); Mulryan seconded and the motion carried, 5-0.
Councilwoman Chelsey Brosious sent a revised City Utilities application to Clerk Ken Bergeron. Mayor Goss said she would notify Evergy to continue the franchise fee rate at 4 percent. Councilmember Ashley Gearhart solicited ideas for the city newsletter. Mayor Goss reminded Councilwoman Sue Mulryan she would need a photo and ID copy for a badge.
The council adjourned at 8:55 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 21, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
