Tega Cay council names City Hall for first mayor Anthony Tarulli, discusses future naming policy

Council members voted unanimously on May 18 to dedicate City Hall as the Anthony Tarulli Building in honor of the city’s first mayor and a leader in the city’s incorporation.
Mayor Miller described Terrulli/Tarulli’s role as the city’s first mayor and a catalyst for incorporation and said it is fitting to honor that legacy at City Hall. Council member Fultz seconded the resolution; several council members expressed support and asked that the city adopt written criteria for future naming or memorial requests to ensure transparency and consistency.
Council member Jones suggested the dedication presented an opportunity to draft a formal naming policy that would set criteria such as background checks, costs to taxpayers, and relative prominence (e.g., park bench vs. City Hall). The mayor said standards and guidelines are already being developed and acknowledged the timeliness of honoring the city’s first mayor while he is living.
The resolution passed unanimously and staff will continue work on a naming policy to guide similar requests going forward.
