Henderson approves vehicle, radio purchases and insurance renewals

At its April 28 meeting, the Henderson City Commission approved several municipal orders covering equipment purchases and employee-health reinsurance.
The commission awarded a bid for a parks department truck (Municipal Order 36-26) for $33,334.68 and approved the purchase of 10 Motorola APX 6000 portable radios for the police department under Municipal Order 37-26 for $61,942. "We spend money with people in Henderson," one commissioner said in support of the truck purchase.
On Municipal Order 38-26, the commission authorized renewal of the city's stop-loss (catastrophic) coverage. The insurance representative, Benji, described a competitive RFP in which Symetra emerged with lower renewal increases than the incumbent. "We were able to eventually get some light down to 9%... we’re recommending that we transition the coverage to Symetra," Benji said, and he reported an estimated Symetra premium of about $810,511 with a $215,000 individual deductible after negotiaton and a projected combined savings of roughly $33,000 from two adjustments staff described.
The commission also approved Municipal Order 39-26 renewing the city’s organ transplant policy; staff said that transplant coverage cost was rising by about $6,000 annually but recommended renewal.
All municipal orders were approved by roll call.
