Malabar council approves consent agenda, authorizes manager travel; staff report website upgrades and fire inspection plans

The Malabar Town Council voted to approve the consent agenda (items 4.a–4.e) and later approved travel and training expenses for Town Manager Lisa Morrell to attend the BS&A Software customer conference Oct. 5–8 in Ponte Vedra Beach; both motions were recorded as passing with a 4‑0 vote.
Town Clerk/Treasurer Richard Kohler told the council staff has begun training on a redesigned town website intended to improve the user interface and ADA accessibility; Kohler said the site will include fonts easier for people with dyslexia and features to assist color‑blind users and estimated public access before the end of summer. He also said the FY 2024–25 audit by James Moore Co. is scheduled for the week of May 11 and staff is working with Carr Riggs & Ingram to prepare required documents under state law.
Fire Chief Hooker reported that the department is compliant with new federal reporting standards, has received a new chief vehicle and will resume annual fire inspections. Chief Hooker also said an auto‑aid agreement with Palm Bay allows Malabar firefighters to perform live‑fire drills at Palm Bay’s facility, which he said provides ISO credits.
A variance application was announced with public hearings set May 27 (Planning & Zoning Board) and June 1 (Town Council acting as Board of Adjustments). The May 4 meeting ended with council announcements and adjournment at 8:00 p.m.
