Mayor Steve Rivet introduced discussion of Resolution 04‑2026 to remove the Treasurer position and assign those duties to the Town Clerk, Richard Kohler. Rivet said he recommended the clerk provide an amended contract after six months in the combined role and said Kohler had performed well in the duties so far.
Kohler described the scope of his responsibilities as clerk and treasurer, including payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable, and said his current split between the two roles is "about 40/60" (Clerk/Treasurer). Council members asked for further information, including local municipal pay comparisons and any differences in education or certification among comparable finance staff.
Council Member Mary Hofmeister said she wanted more time to review the proposal given fiscal concerns; no salary amendment was approved on May 4. By consensus the council agreed to rehear the contract discussion at the June 1 regular meeting so members can examine comparator data and other details before taking formal action.
