Buchanan County board approves routine claims, auditor report and a training reimbursement; authorized pest-control bids

The Buchanan County Board of Supervisors on July 13 conducted routine business and approved a series of motions including claims, reports and administrative items.

Supervisors John Kurtz, Dawn Vogel and Keith Wieland were recorded as present. On motions by Wieland and Kurtz the board approved the agenda and minutes of the July 6 meeting. The board approved employee claims of $928.63 and separate claims filed with the county auditor totaling $397,339.88; the meeting record includes a vendor list with a reported total of $399,241.56 for the claims batch.

The board also approved the Auditor’s quarterly report in the amount of $39,897.28 and accepted the monthly employee health insurance report. Motion by Kurtz, second by Wieland placed on file the manure management plan for Charlie & Peg Ward, Newton Township, Section 23.

The board met with Greg VandeVoorde, Medical Examiner Investigator, who requested reimbursement for a $300 training in Ankeny and mileage to attend; on motion by Kurtz, seconded by Wieland the board approved reimbursement for training and mileage.

Auditor Kris Wilgenbusch explained the county’s bidding requirements and procedures regarding pest-control contracts and noted the board is not required to publish a formal bid. The board authorized Supervisor John Kurtz to proceed with requesting pest-control quotes for the courthouse and the jail and to return those bids for board review.

The meeting concluded with board and commission updates, public comments and an adjournment at 10:09 a.m.
