Madison board approves consent agenda, accepts two police oaths and authorizes multiple permits and contracts

Madison City’s Board of Aldermen, chaired by Mayor Pro Tempore Guy Bowering, unanimously approved a bundled consent agenda at its April 1 meeting that included personnel actions, routine procurement awards, permit authorizations and an appointment to the Planning & Zoning Commission.
The consent agenda—which Mayor Pro Tempore Guy Bowering opened for approval after asking whether any items should be removed—was moved by Alderman Sandra Strain and seconded by Alderman Tawanna Tatum. The motion passed unanimously; Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler declared the motion carried.
The board accepted oaths of office for Police Officer Jeremiah A. Brooks and Police Officer Adam W. Nelson and recorded personnel changes including the termination of Firefighter Tucker Fowler, the rescission of Street Department laborer Tyrus Carr’s resignation, and authorization to hire Dwight Clanton as a full‑time Parks Department laborer effective April 2, 2025.
On procurement and contracts, the board accepted the lowest quotes from Eaves Enterprises, LLC to cut and remove 23 trees on St. Augustine Drive and five trees on North Castle Drive, authorized municipal advertising funds for Explore Mississippi magazine in The Northside Sun, and approved a contract authorization for ACE Consulting and Design, LLC to provide an independent fee estimate for Airport Improvement Program Project No. 3-28-0046 (runway rehabilitation/taxiway removal).
Infrastructure items approved under the consent agenda included authorizations for the mayor to execute Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) permit applications to construct pipelines along Tisdale Road and Green Oak Lane for the Tisdale sewer line project and along Highway 51 between Madison Avenue and Main Street in support of the City Center Water project; the city clerk was authorized to obtain financial security bonds as needed for bore work under Highway 51.
The board also ratified an emergency repair of the roof at the Webster Animal Shelter and approved the Police Department’s request to renew annual software maintenance with Clearview.ai for investigative use. The Police Department was also authorized to execute a charitable sales promotion and licensing agreement between the Webster Animal Shelter and Raising Cane’s.
Clay Eckerson was appointed to the Planning & Zoning Commission representing Ward 6 as part of the consent package, and the board acknowledged submission of an application to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ 2025 Recreational Trails Program.
With no further business, Alderman Sandra Strain moved to adjourn; Alderman Pat Peeler seconded and the board voted unanimously to adjourn. The meeting record is signed by Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler and City Clerk Nathan Hanson.
