At its June 15 meeting the Riverside Township Committee adopted revisions to the township’s Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA) policies to reflect current federal and state statutory requirements and administrative practice (Resolution 2026-#79).
The revised policy text presented to the committee reiterates that eligible employees may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in a 12‑month period for qualifying reasons and up to 26 workweeks to care for a covered service member. The NJFLA provisions adopted include a 12‑week maximum in a rolling 24‑month period for eligible employees who qualify under state law, and specify eligibility thresholds, notice and certification procedures, intermittent‑leave rules, and coordination with state wage‑replacement benefits such as Family Leave Insurance (FLI) and Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI).
The committee’s resolution directs incorporation of the revised policies into the Township’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual and authorizes the township administrator and appropriate officials to implement and administer the revisions.
What happens next: Human resources and department heads will implement the revised leave procedures, update personnel files and inform employees about the new policy language and applicable notice and certification obligations.
