Residents tell council they no longer feel safe; ask for permanent barrier and sustained enforcement

Several residents used the public-comment period to press the council on neighborhood safety.
Kenny Valdivia said his street is a regular access point to the riverbed near the 105 Freeway and alleged ongoing trespassing, drug activity and harassment that has spilled onto private property. Valdivia asked the city to evaluate constructing a permanent brick wall or other barrier between the riverbed and the neighborhood and urged continued enforcement and coordination with public safety.
Cynthia Clemente, a disabled senior resident, described two recent violent incidents—an aggressive approach near Applebee’s and a store scuffle at Grocery Outlet—and reported that calls to public safety and the sheriff did not result in an immediate response. She asked for increased patrolling of commercial parking lots and better coordination with deputies.
City staff thanked the speakers and the mayor asked Public Safety Director Rita Ruiz to follow up; staff indicated they would connect with the residents and continue enforcement and outreach efforts.
