Effingham County names airport boardroom for longtime commissioner Tony Seymour

The Effingham County Board at its July meeting read and circulated a resolution formally designating the boardroom at the Effingham County Regional Airport as the Tony Seymour Memorial Boardroom in recognition of Seymour’s 51 years of service to the airport commission.

The resolution, presented by the board chairman, memorialized Seymour’s long tenure — including roughly 24 years as president of the regional airport commission — and described his leadership as central to the airport’s development. The chairman presented a copy of the resolution and a plaque to family members who came forward for the recognition.

Quentin Seamer, who identified himself as Seymour’s middle child, said the family appreciated the honor and recalled Seymour’s devotion to aviation. “He loved aviation,” Seamer said. “He loved flying. He loved it so much that it rubbed off on me,” adding that he went on to earn a commercial pilot’s license and serve locally as a pilot and instructor.

The board noted the resolution had already been passed in May and used the July meeting as an occasion to present the plaque and allow family remarks. Airport staff also announced that the runway is open and that a ribbon-cutting for the airport is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 11:00 a.m., an event the county said will commemorate recent airport improvements.

The memorial designation is honorary and does not change airport governance or operations. The board recessed its ceremonial item and moved on to the regular agenda.
