The Tolland Cultural Council met March 5 and confirmed its spring and summer programming, including a planned Matt York performance on the Town Green (with Tolland Church as a rain location) and a full April felting class that has generated a waiting list. Lise LeTellier, a council member, was directed to contact a staffer identified only as Jessica to send a residents-only signup email; the council set a March 12 deadline to give Tolland residents first choice.
The council discussed publicity plans, with Bonnie Scrivener handling social media posts and the members agreeing to print two flyers for the year: one covering adult events and another for children’s performances. Bonnie also noted the Council on Aging hosted Sourdough Brandon in 2025; the council said they may consider inviting that performer in 2027 rather than this year.
Planning for a larger Community Event scheduled for Sept. 19 took shape. Bonnie Scrivener told the council that she and Chief Bergeron will chair the event planning effort and will meet soon. To ensure music between noon and 3 p.m., the council reviewed its financial spreadsheet and adjusted budget lines so bands can be paid from the council’s funds.
The council moved $70.86 from administrative funds to increase the available amount to $500 for bands performing at the Sept. 19 Community Event. The minutes record that this change leaves $29.14 in administrative funds and $165 in donations to be obligated at a later date. The minutes do not record a formal roll-call vote; they state the spreadsheet was reviewed and approved by the committee.
Other program decisions included foregoing an Open Mic this year and continuing to explore having a food truck at the August performance, with members asked to identify vendors and any minimum-attendance requirements. The council assigned point persons for each event: Kristine Seney and Bonnie Scrivener for the Felting Class; Bonnie Scrivener and Suzanne Moquin for David Maloof; Lise LeTellier and Kristine Seney for Matt York; Suzanne Moquin and Lise LeTellier for kids’ summer events; and Mary-Beth Ballard and Paula Sharon for Oakland Stroke.
The council scheduled its next meeting for May 7 at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:44 p.m.
