Parent asks Prosper ISD to adopt standardized investigative matrix for student discipline

During public comment at the July 20 Prosper ISD Board meeting, Miss McMahon urged trustees to direct administration to develop and publish a standardized investigative matrix for disciplinary matters that can lead to a change of placement for students.
"Every student deserves an objective and thorough investigation before experiencing one of the most significant school district actions that can be imposed on a student," Miss McMahon said. She described the matrix as a tool that should outline steps taken, evidence considered, mitigating factors evaluated, required elements of the district code of conduct or Texas Education Code provisions, and how evidence supports determinations.
McMahon said that parents should not be left "wondering how that decision was reached" and asked that the matrix be made available to families before a disciplinary decision so they understand the process, standards and basis for any outcome. She also described a personal experience in which the appeals process left her family waiting about six weeks for a final administrative decision and argued that appeals are too little when an initial investigation is deficient.
The board thanked her for the comment and did not take immediate action on the request during the July 20 meeting. The comment was entered into the public meeting record and may be considered by trustees or administration as part of broader policy reviews.
