District outlines state-approved spend-down plan for food service; lists generator, flooring and steamer purchases

District staff member Lacey briefed trustees on a state-approved excess operating "spend down" plan for the food-service program and the purchases the district plans to make before the end of the fiscal year.
"We don't wanna go over 3 months operating, costs," Lacey said, explaining that if the district exceeds that threshold it must submit a spend-down plan to the state describing how leftover funds will be spent. She listed approved items already included in the district's plan: a generator to protect food during power outages, new cafeteria flooring in both cafeterias, and a new steamer along with required plumbing work.
Lacey said the state has approved the plan and that district staff will meet with principals and business staff to finalize purchases and timing so work can occur before June rather than waiting until the final month of the fiscal year.
The district also received an email survey from an individual identified as Sendhil; trustees were asked to complete the survey. No dollar amounts were provided during the presentation.
What’s next: Staff will reconvene with operational staff to set purchase timelines and proceed under the approved state spend-down, with the goal of completing projects this fiscal year.
