Limestone County Commission approves consent package including $2.2 million in claims, grants and contracts

The Limestone County Commission approved a broad consent package during its meeting, voting to pay $2,226,380.23 in claims and to accept several grants and contracts that county officials said will support recycling, public safety and the planned animal shelter.

The action came after routine roll call and a series of separate motions that the chair put to voice vote. The commission unanimously approved an ADM grant of $71,590 to purchase an industrial shredder, conveyor and open-top trailers for the countys recycling program; commissioners were told there is no county match for that award. The commission also accepted a $179,937 grant from Aaliyah for a tactical response vehicle and associated equipment for the sheriffs office, again with no county match reported.

In related infrastructure and service contracts, the commission approved a consultant and service agreement with Morrell Engineering to perform surveying and engineering for roadwork and sewer design at the animal shelter site on South Jefferson Street, and separately approved a contract with Latham McKee Architects to provide architectural services for the new shelter building. The chair said staff and a named county employee, Derek, have been heavily involved in advancing the shelter project.

The body also voted to apply for a U.S. Department of Homeland Security 2026 Port Security Grant to acquire an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and associated training. Officials stated the total project cost is $179,925.83, with a county match of $44,009.81 (25%).

Commissioners approved Amendment No. 3 to a memorandum of understanding with Heritage Health Solutions, effective retroactive to July 15, 2026, to continue processing inmate medical claims.

The consent package included a grouped personnel block: promotions for corrections staff (including Jason Moose and Hannah Jones Yates), the promotion of Mary Lou Leon to clerk, hires of Dorothy Elizabeth Griggs and Alicia Dawn Allison, and the hire of Colton Lueder as equipment operator. The commission also approved an amendment to the deputy sheriff job description, the addition of one school resource officer position for the DARE program (grade 17), and merit increases for county employees.

All motions under the consent items were made, seconded and approved on voice roll calls during the meeting. The chair called votes after each no-discussion motion. The meeting adjourned following routine business and scheduling of upcoming budget hearings.

The commission did not hold public hearings or take any contested votes during the session; commissioners present registered aye votes for the consent items.
