Residents press county for clarity on pool grants and road impacts from construction projects

Two members of the public used the board’s public-comment period July 21 to press commissioners on grant rules and local impacts from construction projects.
Susan Letheby, who said she represents the Eastborough neighborhood pool, thanked commissioners for prior neighborhood-pool grant awards and asked how the county’s grant guidelines apply to structural repairs and whether funds can be released in advance rather than as reimbursement. Letheby said Eastborough serves a lower-income neighborhood and relies on volunteers; she asked for guidance on the appropriate email contact and timing for future grant cycles. Commissioners and staff said they would follow up by email and offered to meet after the meeting for additional detail.
Isaac Robinson of Princeton Road said his community has seen repeated construction projects nearby and questioned whether local contractors and local spending commitments have been honored. Robinson reported his own traffic counts for a July day (278 vehicles observed during two sampling periods) and asked how the county accounts for road wear and whether permittees reimburse for maintenance. He raised specific concerns about construction camera placement, the timing of road studies and potential cumulative impacts from additional projects including a power-station expansion and a proposed data center. Robinson urged more transparency and better mitigation for rural roads and school traffic risks.
Chair Krista Yocom and staff suggested follow-up conversations; commissioners allowed staff to provide an email contact for grant questions and to bring details to a future discussion.
