Vinita board approves application for OWRB wastewater grant to repair sewer lines

The Vinita Utilities Authority on Tuesday voted unanimously to authorize applying for an Oklahoma Water Resources Board wastewater grant to repair and upgrade parts of the city's collection system.
City Administrator Mr. Prince told the board that the resolution would support planned work including replacing about 800 feet of collection main, removing and replacing four concrete manholes, replacing 12 sewer laterals and performing associated surface repairs. He said the program can provide up to $350,000 but staff is likely to request about $220,000 based on engineer estimates and that a local match could be roughly 20 percent—about $40,000—if the application receives higher scoring.
"This grant is available through OWRB," Prince said. "We're asking for replacing 800 feet of the collection system, removing and replacing four concrete manholes, replacing 12 sewer laterals, and the surface repairs. The engineer gave a minimum estimate of around $220,000. If we put a match in, about 20 percent, we'd be looking at roughly $40,000."
Prince said the application is a step to secure funding for work already planned in advance of a fall metering project and that, if awarded, the city would return to the board with a formal acceptance and additional details.
The board approved the resolution and a companion verification form that designates the mayor as the authorized signer for application documents. Prince said the verification form is one of several documents required by OWRB.
The vote was recorded by voice as unanimous; no members spoke in opposition. The authorization lets staff and the city’s engineer prepare and submit the application but does not itself obligate the city to accept a grant award until the council reviews any final offer.
Next steps: staff will finalize application materials, submit them to OWRB, and return to the board with the full grant award packet if the city is selected.
