The Hardyston Township Board of Education cleared routine business at its July meeting, approving monthly finance and personnel motions, moving several policy items forward and introducing new staff.
Chair opened the meeting and the board handled roll call before approvals. The board voted by roll call to adopt old business and to approve the minutes from its June 9 regular meeting. The finance motions (F1–F6) and personnel motions (P1–P6) listed on the agenda were presented by the finance and personnel committee chairs and approved by the board.
The board also took action on several policy items on the agenda. POL1 was approved on its second reading after a motion and roll‑call vote. POL3 — a list of policies identified as obsolete because they are covered by the newly updated policy language — was moved and approved as an abolishment. During discussion of POL2 (an equity policy listed for first reading), several board members raised concerns about potential impacts on the gifted and talented program and asked that those concerns be handled separately by the curriculum committee; POL2 was treated as a first reading with the board deferring further change until committee review.
The board recognized and introduced the district’s new director of special education, Dr. Melissa Sable, who was invited to introduce herself to the board during the meeting.
Before adjourning the public session, the chair moved the meeting into executive session to discuss legal matters; the board scheduled that executive session to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned after the agenda items and the goal‑setting session concluded.
