The Soda Springs City Council approved a motion on April 1 to purchase a new street sweeper for fiscal year 2027 after a discussion of condition, trade-in options and procurement approach. Director Squires moved to approve the purchase order; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Director Squires said the quoted price was “about $412,000,” described the machine as functionally similar to prior sweepers and argued the purchase should not be financed if fund balances allow. He noted the new sweeper would likely not be delivered until late 2026 or early 2027 and that there was no down payment required under the vendor’s proposal.
Council members discussed trade-in value estimates for the existing unit (the director reported a possible $10,000–$15,000 trade-in) and considered operating two sweepers seasonally. One council member asked about rental viability; staff said frequent seasonal use and maintenance concerns favor purchasing over occasional rental. The council approved the motion without a roll-call; the clerk recorded the motion and announced that the motion passed.
Next steps identified: staff will proceed with ordering under the vendor quote and report back with delivery and financing details to be reflected in the FY27 budget and equipment tracking.
