The San Antonio Building Standards Board on May 7 found the fire-damaged property at 5246 Village Crest a public nuisance but feasible to repair, and it ordered a 90-day repair timeline with engineer documentation, permits to be pulled prior to work, perimeter fencing to secure the structure and 20-day progress reports to the code officer.
Dangerous premises officer Cynthia Santana presented extensive fire damage dating to Nov. 18, 2025, showing charred rafters and studs, missing roof decking and an unsecured garage area that the staff said the owner had not secured as previously ordered. "Staff recommends demolition," Santana said during the presentation.
Elizabeth Rogers, presenting under a signed power of attorney for the owner, said the owner is incarcerated and has bank funds to pay for repairs; she told the board the garage has collapsed but argued the house could be repaired for under $40,000 based on current bids and that she had boarded openings and installed a camera to secure the site. "He can definitely afford to fix it, and we can do it in a timely manner," Rogers said, asking the board not to tear down the house.
After board discussion about securing the property and confirming documents, a motion requiring a 90-day repair timeline, engineer report, permits and a perimeter rental fence around the structure passed on a roll call with four ayes and one abstention (Dr. Fazal Hussain).
