McKinley also supplied teachers associated with the students, including Kelly Peters, Gwendolyn Rigney, Krista Williams, Daniel Ulmer, Chelsea Daniels and Jessica Jennings.
"She kind of like welted up in, like, almost tears," McKinley said of a teachers reaction when learning a student had placed in the contest, reflecting strong local enthusiasm for the program. McKinley said organizers received about 120 essays this year, a substantial increase from "less than 10" the prior year, and that the selected students have paperwork and requirements to complete by April 23.
McKinley also clarified a parents name when asked: the student Remington Klusman is the son of Talia and Charles Klusman. McKinley invited councilors and the public to attend the April 23 event where winners will appear.
