Council approves $2.8M GMP for downtown South Lake/Cherry streetscape project

Groveland's City Council approved a contract price amendment July 6 with Traverse Group, Inc. to begin Phase II construction of the South Lake Avenue and Cherry Street Streetscape and Stormwater Project.
Community Redevelopment Agency Manager Frank Calascione said the design and permitting work already invested totaled roughly $500,000 and that the Phase II construction GMP is approximately $2.8 million. Funding includes grant awards (Florida Commerce CDBG and FDEP stormwater grant) and CRA funds; Calascione said the project will be constructed in three phases over an estimated 150 days with a construction start date of July 7, 2026.
Mayor Keogh asked about GMP structure and whether contingency savings would benefit the City; staff said the GMP sets the City's maximum obligation and that cost overruns would be the contractor's responsibility. Council expressed interest in reviewing CRA obligations in an upcoming CRA budget workshop before spending additional CRA funds. After the presentation, the motion to approve the contract amendment passed unanimously.
