Marshall County hears highway project updates; Ditch Authority approves CD 30 cleaning

County Engineer Lon Aune told the Marshall County Board on July 7 that the Middle River box culvert and Donnelly Township bridge projects are complete and that paving transitions for Routes 54, 44 and 2 will proceed with paving scheduled for July 15.
Aune said graveling on County State-Aid Highway (CSAH) 2 has not yet started and that a potential Middle River bike path is being bid but hinges on securing funding. The Board also discussed an intern position and its future status in the highway department.
Northwest Regional Development Commission Transportation Director Tim Finseth and Transportation Assistant Taylor Vanbuskirk updated the Board on area projects and funding options for possible new projects. Their presentation covered project planning and potential funding sources under consideration.
The Board recessed its regular meeting and convened as the Ditch Authority, which approved a request to clean County Ditch 30 Branch B in Section 34 of Adger Township for roughly three-quarters of a mile. The motion to approve the cleaning request passed unanimously (moved by Commissioner Gary Kiesow, seconded by Commissioner Larry Nybladh; vote 5-0). The Authority also noted a recent Nelson Slough project open house and discussed funding options and next steps for County Ditch 45.
These items were recorded as updates and routine maintenance decisions; engineering staff will continue planning and pursue funding where required. The regular meeting was reconvened after Ditch Authority business.
