County staff brief commissioners on wildfire response, community meeting and disaster-relief fund

County staff updated the Lake County Board of County Commissioners on ongoing emergency operations, public information and community support efforts related to the active wildfire.

Deputy county manager Josh Becker said the state incident management team had assumed control of the fire incident, bringing additional resources and public information officers to support local response. He encouraged residents to consult the county website and official channels for consolidated information and announced a community meeting at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium with a virtual link available; staff said the meeting would include incident command and county updates.

Becker also highlighted the Lake County Community Fund disaster relief fund, managed by public health and the Department of Emergency Management, as the preferred central destination for donations. County staff said the fund will gather resources now and that disbursement plans will be developed as needs and eligibility become clear.

Staff asked the board to help direct messaging and to prepare for recovery-phase roles, including potential county-led town halls once the incident transitions from response to recovery. Commissioners discussed continuity of government operations, the need to support staff involved in emergency response and how to prioritize supplemental budget notices as fire-related costs emerge.
