Marshall County commissioners authorize payments, cancel lost warrants and set 5% budgeting goal

The Marshall County Board of Commissioners on July 7 authorized payment of county bills, canceled several lost warrants and directed departments to limit proposed 2027 budget increases to no more than 5% from 2026.
In Resolution 07-07-01 the Board approved payment of auditor warrants totaling $11,589.55 and commissioner warrants totaling $296,462.43. The motion to approve the payment authorization passed unanimously (moved by Commissioner Gary Kiesow, seconded by Commissioner Sharon Bring; vote 5-0).
Auditor-Treasurer Scott Peters reported several administrative items later in the meeting, including a midyear actual-versus-budget report and ongoing work on the county's procurement policy. The Board set a budgeting guideline for 2027 requiring county departments to present budgets that show increases no greater than 5% from 2026; that motion passed unanimously (moved by Kiesow, seconded by Commissioner Jim Duckstad; vote 5-0).
The Board also adopted two separate resolutions to cancel and reissue lost warrants. Resolution 07-07-02 directed cancellation of multiple lost warrants, including: warrant #345015 (Ava Novacek) for $58.10; #346709 (Supermarket Foods) for $1,071.53; #347026 (Auto Value) for $1,095.85; and #347655 (Foldahl Township) for $52,074.61. The resolution authorized waiving bond requirements and reissuing new warrants with new numbers and was approved (moved by Commissioner Larry Nybladh, seconded by Commissioner Sharon Bring; vote 5-0).
Resolution 07-07-03 canceled an additional lost warrant in accordance with Unclaimed Property Statute 345.31 (example listed: check 321950 for $121.28 payable to Kari Sulze), again waiving the furnishing of a bond and authorizing reissuance. That action passed by unanimous vote (moved by Commissioner Jim Duckstad, seconded by Commissioner Sharon Bring; vote 5-0).
The meeting record shows the Board handled these financial and administrative items as standard business; next steps include reissuing replacement warrants under the new numbers and continuing the 2027 budget process under the 5% guidance. The meeting was adjourned at 12:47 p.m.
