San Antonio Commission approves routine contracts, hears public comments including end to Tampa Electric surcharge

At its June 16 meeting the San Antonio City Commission approved a consent agenda (May minutes and monthly fund disbursements) and a series of operational contracts.
The commission unanimously accepted quotes for citywide concrete repairs (Huron Concrete) and for tree removal and trimming (Cam Unlimited). Commissioners also approved the consent agenda and routine procurement motions without dissent.
During public comment, Karen Rafferty (Mayor of Belleair Bluffs) invited commissioners to a Suncoast League of Cities meeting. Andy Taylor, a Tampa Electric representative, announced that the company’s storm surcharge will end in July and that customers should see an 11–12% reduction. Anthony Cicanese of Summerfield Way asked that Summerfield HOA be exempted from Railroad Depot reservation fees and requested a review of the city’s law enforcement contract; the request was placed on the record for commission consideration.
Commissioner Blaze Drinkwine reported Pasco County had asked San Antonio to present an ordinance to include the city in the county’s Municipal Service Taxing Unit (MSTU) for parks. City Attorney Gerald T. Buhr advised the commission that accepting the MSTU would place the city in a 10‑year contract with no ability to control county tax increases; Mayor John Vogel agreed to decline presenting the ordinance to the county.
The meeting closed with announcements about upcoming community events and adjournment at 7:34 p.m.
