Staff reports: wastewater headworks, McGill Park Phase Two and street resurfacing progressing

Public works staff updated council on the wastewater headworks construction, McGill Park Phase Two schedule (substantial completion Sept. 5; final Oct. 5), and the street resurfacing program timeline targeting completion by end of June/early July.
At the June 15 Canal Winchester work session, public works staff provided updates on several ongoing capital projects.
Bill Sims said the wastewater headworks project is advancing: exterior walls are being poured, backfilling continues and crews began installing the trunk sewer that will intercept flow to the existing building. Sims offered council members a tour of the site.
On McGill Park Phase Two, Sims and council member McLaughlin discussed schedule and turf plans. Sims said substantial completion is targeted for Sept. 5, 2026, with a contractual final completion date of Oct. 5, 2026; most field areas will be seeded (not sodded), so fields will require growing seasons before heavy use.
Sims also described the city street program work beginning on the south side of Deitz Drive: excavation, subgrade stabilization and gravel placement are planned this week, with asphalt possibly this week but more likely by Monday; contractor sequence then moves to Thrush Drive, Trine Street, East Fairfield and several alleys. Staff expect project completion by the end of the month or around the Fourth of July.
Sims noted that Kroger has installed water service for a gas station location and that Culver’s remains completing landscaping and site work. Council asked follow-up scheduling questions; Sims provided target dates and described practical constraints such as lighting pole delivery.
