Westcliffe trustees approve tourism parking signs, adopt LPC grant resolution and close Town Hall for July 3

The Westcliffe Board of Trustees met June 16 and approved a package of routine items, including a purchase to direct visitors to overflow parking, formal adoption of a grant resolution, and closure of Town Hall for the July 3 holiday.
Trustees voted to buy two CDOT‑compliant signs to direct tourists to the Rosita parking lot. Bianca Trenker of the Tourism Board told trustees the signs would be 18 by 24 inches and cost about $120 each, not including shipping or hardware. “The signs would be 18 x 24 and each one is about $120, not including shipping and hardware,” Trenker said. The board approved purchasing two signs, with the purchase not to exceed $1,000 (motion by Trustee Mark Dembosky; second by Trustee Shy). The motion carried.
The board also approved Resolution 2‑2026, a document Ms. Riddle described as a boilerplate resolution required by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) to confirm the town’s commitment to meeting grant requirements. Town Attorney Dan Findlay told trustees he had no concerns about the document. Trustee Fulton moved to adopt the resolution; Trustee Jagow seconded and the motion carried.
Trustees approved closing Town Hall on Friday, July 3 (motion by Trustee Wilhelm; second by Trustee Nordyke). The board approved the consent agenda at the start of the meeting, which included minutes, the treasurer’s report and bills (motion by Trustee Wilhelm; second by Trustee Jagow).
A citizen request for a new crosswalk on Main Street between 104 Main St. and the train depot was tabled until staff can research the best location. Sarah Handy, who said she recently bought a nearby building and expects increased traffic when a new tenant moves in, urged the board to act but trustees agreed to gather more information and revisit the matter next month. The Sheriff’s report was also tabled because the Sheriff was unable to attend.
The board’s staff reports noted infrastructure work is underway (sewer work approximately 75% complete), parks staff are preparing for July 4 and the Bluegrass Festival, and the Town Clerk said a final draft of a Memorandum of Understanding with Round Mountain is ready.
